Op 18 april vertrek ik voor 6,5 week naar India. Binnen de organisatie waar ik werk, Yacht, is het mogelijk om ontwikkelingswerk te gaan doen. De deal is dat ik mijn uren (lees vakantie), Yacht draagt de kosten van het ticket, het visum, de inentingen (plus een week vrij voor MVO uren), People4Change doet namens Yacht de bemiddelingen om een passende opdracht te vinden en de plaatselijke organisatie verschaft mij onderdak.

De plaatselijke organisatie is in mijn geval Dhan Foundation. DHAN staat voor Development of Humane Action Foundation. Ze hebben de mission statement:

‘Building people and institutions for development innovations and scaling-up to enable the poor communities for poverty reduction and self relaince’.

Voor DHAN ga ik werken in Madura (zuid India) bij het SUHAM Hospital, wat staat voor Sustainable Healthcare Advancement. The SUHAM hospital has het following objectives:

-       to provide quality and accessible healthcare at affortable cost;

-       to reduce leakages in the family cash flows of poor in the form of medical expenses;

-       to built technical competence of people institutions on first aid, after care, and counselling services.

Binnenkort hoop ik wel wat meer informatie over het ziekenhuis online te kunnen zetten.

De eerste opdrachtformulering zag er als volgt uit:

“The objectives of the assignment are as follows:

1. Developing hospital accounting manual which guides accounting systems in the hospital
2. Preparation of sustainability plan for the hospital
3. Preparation of financial projection of hospital, pharmacy and diagnosis centre of Madurai SUHAM hostipal for next five year
4. Analysing present financial system and making suggestions for different cost centres of the hospitals.
5. Developing Management Information System for the hospital system.

At the end of the assignment, the financial and business controller would submit the suggestions and guidelines in the form of a report to DHAN.”

Dit is op zich een beetje veel (te veel) voor de periode dat ik er ben. Ik heb slechts vier weken. Voor zover het mogelijk is hebben ze de prioritering als volgt gedaan: 4, 2, 3, 5, 1, waarbij er toch sprake is van overlap. Omdat ik nu nog geen inschatting kan maken van hoe groot de organisatie is en hoe de situatie ter plekke is, is een goede schatting maken last danwel onmogelijk. De eerste dagen zal daar hopelijk, ook na een aantal gesprekken, meer duidelijkheid over ontstaan
